Located in Zhejiang Province, China, Yingpeng Chemical Co., Ltd., renowned for its HCFC22 production, has embarked on a groundbreaking environmental initiative. The company, with a production capacity of 25,000 tons/year of HCFC22, is addressing a critical environmental issue: the emission of HFC23, a high-potency greenhouse gas, which is an unwanted by-product of HCFC22 production.
The project's central aim is to capture the entire waste stream of HFC23 from the production process and decompose it almost completely. This is achieved through an incineration process set to be installed at Yingpeng Chemical. The incinerator decomposes HFC23 into carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen chloride (HCl), hydrogen fluoride (HF), and other substances. These by-products are then subjected to cooling and de-acidification processes before being released into the atmosphere, significantly reducing their global warming potential.
This initiative aligns with the goals of the Kyoto Protocol, promoting sustainable development practices in developing countries. It also reflects China's commitment to industrial modernization and environmental responsibility, as the country experiences rapid growth in demand for air conditioning and refrigeration.
