Sichuan Furong Coal Mine Methane Utilization Project: Focusing on Sustainable Energy Practices
 
The Sichuan Furong Coal Mine Methane Utilization Project, spearheaded by the Sichuan Furong Group's Limited Industrial Company, is a noteworthy initiative based in Yibin city, Sichuan Province, China. The project's primary goal is to capture and utilize coal mine methane (CMM) for the purpose of power generation.
Currently, CMM is extracted from four of Furong Group's mines, namely Baijiao, Shanmushu, Xunchang, and Gongquan coal mines, primarily for safety reasons. While a small portion of this extracted CMM is used for residential and commercial purposes, the majority is currently released into the atmosphere. The project aims to change this by harnessing this CMM for energy production, thus displacing the need for electricity from the on-site captive power plant and the Central China Power Grid (CCPG) for on-site use.
This initiative is significant because it not only utilizes a previously wasted resource but also contributes to reducing atmospheric emissions. Importantly, the implementation of the project will not interfere with or reduce the existing level of CMM used for thermal demands.
